Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Ethan Moreau scored early in the third period to snap a tie and lift Edmonton to a 4-3 win over Chicago at the United Center.
Ryan Smyth finished with a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who posted consecutive wins for the first time since November and are unbeaten in their last three (2-0-1). Brad Isbister and Jarret Stoll also scored, while Tommy Salo made 22 saves.
Alex Zhamnov, Deron Quint and Nathan Dempsey scored for the Blackhawks, who lost for the third time in four games (1-2-0-1).
Stoll and Smyth scored consecutive shorthanded goals to cap a three-goal flurry in the second period for Edmonton, which rallied from a two-goal deficit to post its third straight road win.
Isbister tipped in a shot from the right wing 11:57 into the period to start the run. Then Stoll and Smyth notched shorthanded goals 41 seconds apart.
Stoll's goal, on a slap shot from above the left faceoff circle with 6:40 to go in the second, forged a 2-2 tie. Smyth quickly redirected a shot by Shawn Horcoff past Chicago goaltender Steve Passmore to put the Oilers ahead 3-2.
Passmore stopped 17 shots.
The Blackhawks tied it at 3-3 on Dempsey's sixth goal of the season. He beat Salo with a wrist shot from between the circles on a delayed penalty with 1:36 to go in the second.
Moreau snapped 20-game scoreless streak 55 seconds into the third period. He redirected a pass from around boards off the stick of Chicago's Steve Poapst into the net.
Midway through the third period, Blackhawks forward Igor Korolev had a goal waved off because the referee ruled the net had been knocked off it moorings.
Edmonton killed off three power plays in the third period, including a two-man disadvantage.
Chicago built a 2-0 advantage in the first period.
Zhamnov opened the scoring with a wrist shot at 3:20 of the first. Quint delivered an unassisted goal 7:18 later with a slap shot.
Horcoff registered two assists for the Oilers, who improved to 7-8-4 on the road...Chicago finished 0-for-4 on the power play...Edmonton winger Jason Chimera played in his 100th career NHL game...Moreau was Chicago's top pick (14th overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
