NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Pittsburgh

(Monday, December 29th)

Final Score: Pittsburgh 1, Chicago 0

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Sebastien Caron stopped 31 shots for his third career shutout, as the Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0 at Mellon Arena.

Tomas Surovy scored the game's lone goal for the Penguins, who won for the first time in six games (1-3-1-1).

Steve Passmore stopped 20 shots for Chicago, which is in the midst of a 12- game road losing streak (0-11-0-1). The Blackhawks last won on the road at Nashville back on November 7.

Chicago was coming off a 3-0 home win over Detroit on Sunday, but has still won just three times in its last 24 games (3-14-4-3). Michael Leighton, who posted his second shutout in three games on Sunday, was given the night off.

Passmore kept Chicago's scoreless streak intact through the first period, but was beaten just 2:12 into the second for the game's only goal.

Tom Kostopoulos placed a gorgeous pass from the left side of the ice in front of the net, where a streaking Surovy one-timed a shot that beat Passmore glove side. It was his fifth goal of the season.

Caron, meanwhile, stopped nine shots in the first period, then turned aside 11 in each of the next two for his first shutout since last January 21 against Buffalo.

It was also the second Pittsburgh shutout against Chicago this season. Marc- Andre Fleury blanked the Blackhawks, also 1-0, on October 30.
