NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Indiana

(Friday, March 18th)

Final Score: Indiana 103, LA Lakers 97

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Reggie Miller poured in a season-high 39 points to lead Indiana to a 103-97 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Stephen Jackson contributed 19 points and Anthony Johnson added 13 points and 11 assists for the Pacers, who have won four of their last five games. Jeff Foster hauled in 17 rebounds while Dale Davis grabbed 16 boards in the win.

"You know, the legend lives on," said Indiana head coach Rick Carlisle on Miller's performance. "The next time you see a 39-year old going for 39 points at the two spot...you won't see it in this lifetime. This is something special. Never underestimate greatness at any age."

Chucky Atkins had 23 points and Caron Butler went for 19 with 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who have dropped four straight contests. Kobe Bryant was held to only 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting in the setback.

Los Angeles trailed by nine points after three, but opened the final period on a 13-5 surge, capped by Jumaine Jones' basket, to climb within 83-82. Indiana's lead increased to six on Johnson's three moments later, but the Lakers hung tough.

Atkins brought his club within 88-86 on a jumper with just under three minutes remaining, but that would be as close as they would get. Miller's three- pointer in the waning seconds made it 95-90 and the Pacers sealed the win from the foul line.

Indiana took a 22-13 lead on Miller's basket with around four minutes left in the first quarter and extended the edge to 10 points in the waning minutes.

The Pacers eventually led 30-22 after one, but the margin was cut in half as Indiana carried only a 50-46 advantage into the locker room.

Miller's jumper less than three minutes into the third quarter stretched the lead to 61-48 and the Pacers continued to increase the margin to 15 points moments later.

However, trailing by 13 points with around two minutes remaining in the frame, LA came storming back as it used a 7-0 run to cut its deficit to 75-69.

Indiana took a 78-69 edge into the final quarter.
