NBA Game Summary - Dallas at San Antonio
(Thursday, January 5th)
Final Score: San Antonio 93, Dallas 71
San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Matt Bonner was one of five Spurs to score in double figures as San Antonio routed the Dallas Mavericks, 93-71, on Thursday night.
Bonner had 17 points and six rebounds, Richard Jefferson added 16 points and seven rebounds and Tony Parker had 11 points and seven assists for the Spurs, who have won two straight since Manu Ginobili broke his left hand during Monday's loss to Minnesota.
"We were both coming off back-to-backs, they had to travel, but we had the home court advantage and tried to come out with energy and use that home court advantage to get us going. We made a lot threes in the first half and it got contagious. We did it with defense in the second half, because we didn't shoot too well in the third quarter," Bonner said.
It was simply not Dallas' night offensively.
The Mavericks shot 35 percent from the floor and went just 1-of-19 from beyond the arc. Dirk Nowitzki was limited to a minuscule six points on 3- of-11 shooting for Dallas, which had won three of four after beginning the season with three straight losses.
"San Antonio's energy was better to start the game in the first half and that was the difference in the game," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said. "We struggled, but their competitive level was higher and really the decisive part was the first half."
The Spurs jumped out to a 10-2 start and never looked back.
Gary Neal hit three treys in the opening quarter and San Antonio took a 31-17 advantage into the second.
The Spurs continued to sizzle from beyond the arc as Jefferson and Bonner hit a pair of three-pointers in the second stanza, giving San Antonio a 55-29 halftime advantage.
San Antonio connected on 11-of-18 attempts from beyond the arc in the opening half, while Dallas shot 29 percent from the field and was 0-of-11 from three- point range.
Parker's jumper early in the third quarter gave the Spurs their largest lead of the contest, 57-29, and they cruised from there.
Ginobili will be out of action for approximately six weeks...The Spurs are 5-0 at home to start the season for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign when they won their first 13 home games...Jason Terry led the Mavericks with 12 points...The Spurs finished 16-of-33 from beyond the arc.
