NBA Game Summary - Indiana at Boston
(Wednesday, December 3rd)
Final Score: Boston 114, Indiana 96
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Rajon Rondo finished with 17 assists, 16 points and 13 rebounds, as the Boston Celtics beat the Indiana Pacers, 114-96, for their 10th consecutive win.
Rondo's triple-double was the Celtics' first since Ryan Gomes did it on November 8, 2006 against Charlotte -- a span of 181 games. Gomes was part of the package Boston sent to Minnesota in exchange for Kevin Garnett, who finished with 26 points and 14 boards on Wednesday.
"I had one (triple-double) in college, six or seven in high school. It's not easy to do," Rondo said. "I've been so close a lot of games, and to finally get one, I'm excited about it. And most important, we got the win."
Ray Allen had a game-high 31 points for the Celtics, who avenged one of two losses this season. Indiana beat Boston, 95-79, in the Celtics' third game of the season.
Kendrick Perkins and Paul Pierce finished with 16 points apiece for Boston.
Danny Granger had 20 points and five assists to pace Indiana, which has dropped three of four. The Pacers were coming off a one-point win over the Lakers on Tuesday and are in the midst of a brutal four-game stretch that sees them visit Cleveland (15-3) on Friday before returning home to play Boston again.
"What went wrong: Everything," Indiana's Marquis Daniels said. "Go down the list, what do you want to talk about? We didn't do a lot of things right tonight, guys. It was a totally different game from when we played them in Indiana...We didn't do a good job doing anything tonight. We made a valiant effort run at the end, but Boston's a great team and you've got to give them credit tonight."
The Celtics trailed slightly in the first quarter, but ended the stanza with seven points -- baskets from Rondo and Perkins, and a three from Allen -- to take a 28-27 lead headed into the second.
Boston trailed by four almost midway through the second quarter before going on a 12-0 run. Garnett had six points, and Perkins' layup ended the stretch to give the Celtics a 48-40 advantage.
Boston held the lead going into halftime, 57-51, and dominated the third quarter to take control of the game.
Shortly into the third, Perkins deposited a hook shot and followed with a pair of free throws. Garnett then had a jumper, and Allen's basket capped the brief eight-point burst that boosted Boston's lead to 70-55.
After a jumper from the Pacers' Rasho Nesterovic, Boston rattled off the next six points to go up 76-57. Boston led 88-73 going into the fourth and cruised the rest of the way.
