Two share lead at U.S. Amateur Publinx
Midway, UT (Sports Network) - Jace Long and Cheng-Tsung Pan both shot 4-under 67 on Monday to share the lead after one round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
The pair holds a 1-stroke advantage over James Erkenbeck, whose 3-under 68 put him alone in third place after the first of two stroke play rounds at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
Seven players share fourth at 2-under 69 -- Dan Horner, Payne Gniewek, Michael Kim, Kevin Aylwin, Justin Keiley, Bryson Dechambeau and Jordan Wetsch.
Long and Pan took two different routes to their 67s.
Long, from Dixon, Missouri, started play on the back nine and carded four birdies and two bogeys to make the turn at minus-2. The University of Missouri golfer moved to 5-under by draining three birdies in his first five holes on the front side, but followed that run with back-to-back bogeys. However, a birdie at the eighth pushed him to 4-under.
Pan, a native of Taiwan who plays at the University of Washington, made the turn at minus-1 after recording two birdies and a bogey on his front nine. He then carded a clean back nine that included three birdies.
Derek Ernst, last year's runner-up, shot a 1-under 70 and is one of seven players tied in 11th place.
