Description: Red Sox setup man Vicente Padilla has been moved to the disabled list with a strained biceps.
Insight: Padilla really hasn't been on the fantasy radar this season. Expect Boston to use lefthander Andrew Miller in the eighth inning while Padilla (4-1, 4.62 ERA) is out.

Description: Dodgers RP Vicente Padilla has been battling soreness in his forearm. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Forearm soreness can sometimes be a precursor to elbow issues so pay attention to Padilla's status very closely. Look for Kenley Jansen or Matt Guerrier to grab some saves if Padilla is injured.

Description: Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that if Vicente Padilla pitches well, he could remain the closer even after Jonathan Broxton is activated. "We'll see how it goes," Mattingly said. "Obviously, if Vicente comes in and is pitching well out of there, it's hard to just hand something over to somebody else. We'll cross that bridge when we get there." SOURCE: Los Angeles Times
Insight: If this is the case, Broxton would have no fantasy value unless he was traded to a team that would use him as a closer.
5/9/2011 4:18:00 AM
Description: Dodgers RP Vicente Padilla picked up his second save of the season, even though he did allow a run against the Mets.
Insight: It certainly was not clean, but this outing should not cost Padilla his job. He is one of the lower tier closing options but, if you need saves, he needs to be on your roster for as long as he has the 9th inning job.
4/27/2011 3:08:00 PM
Description: Dodgers P Vicente Padilla pitched a scoreless 9th inning to pick up the save in today's win over the Marlins.
Insight: If you are desperate for saves grab Padilla now. Manager Don Mattingly did give Jonathan Broxton a vote of confidence so don't be surprised if Padilla does not keep this job for long.
4/22/2011 12:44:00 PM
Description: The Dodgers activated P Vicente Padilla and he will pitch out of the bullpen. SOURCE:
Insight: Since he won't start and he won't factor into many high-pressure hold / save situations, Padilla's fantasy value is minimal.
4/21/2011 11:12:00 AM
Description: Vicente Padilla is likely to be activated from the disabled list on Friday. He is still dealing with an elbow injury that has sidelined him so far this season. SOURCE: Dodgers' Official Site
Insight: Padilla will come in as middle relief and not as a starting pitcher when he returns, so his action may be limited. There is no need to take a chance on him unless his pitches extraordinary, so don't worry about him.
2/26/2011 10:01:00 PM
Description: Padilla is expected to begin throwing again in three-to-four weeks following elbow surgery.
Insight: The pitcher estimated it would take double that timetable to get back to game shape. For a guy who is a bit of a loose cannon even when healthy, this seems plenty to make fantasy owners forget about him. (
2/25/2011 5:50:00 AM
Description: Vicente Padilla is hoping to be able to throw in 3-4 weeks after having surgery on his forearm this week. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Originally they were saying that he would miss most of the first half of the season but he might now only miss a month of the season or a little more, especially if they only need to stretch him out enough to use him as a reliever.
2/23/2011 10:52:00 AM
Description: Dodgers P Vicente Padilla will undergo surgery on Thursday to free the nerve at the top of his right elbow, which an MRI exam showed was being trapped by a muscle in his forearm. SOURCE:
Insight: There is no need to draft Padilla now, as he won't be ready for the start of the season. With an undetermined role, he is really only an NL-only league option in 2011.
2/22/2011 10:55:00 AM
Description: Dodgers P Vicente Padilla left spring training and was scheduled to fly back to Los Angeles on Tuesday for an MRI exam after experiencing pain in his right elbow. SOURCE:
Insight: Padilla missed two months with elbow issues last season. Don't consider Padilla in your drafts until he can prove he is fully healthy.
2/18/2011 11:17:00 AM
Description: Vicente Padilla does not yet know his role with the Dodgers. If someone is injured, he could start. If Jonathan Broxton fails to regain his form, he could close. Or, if neither of those scenarios unfolds, he could be a long reliever. SOURCE: Los Angeles Times
Insight: Padilla would certainly have more value if he were a starter, as he should get a decent number of wins / K's pitching in the big parks of the NL West. Until his position is defined he is best left to NL-only leagues; mixed league owners should keep Padilla on their watch lists in case he gets save opportunities.
12/10/2010 11:23:00 AM
Description: The Los Angeles Dodgers finalized their one-year, $2 million contract with Vicente Padilla on Thursday. SOURCE:
Insight: Padilla's value is up in the air right now because he does not have a defined role. The Dodgers could use him as a starter but there has been talk he could close if Jonathan Broxton does not return to form. He could also end up pitching middle relief, which would severely minimize his fantasy value.
9/15/2010 11:16:00 AM
Description: Vicente Padilla has been shut down for the rest of the season due to a bulging disk in his neck. SOURCE:
Insight: Padilla finished the season at 6-5 with a 4.07 ERA, but it was nice to see after the way it went with the Rangers last season. It is safe to drop him as he will miss the rest of the season.
9/11/2010 8:11:00 PM
Description: Dodgers SP Vicente Padilla will miss his start tomorrow because of a disc injury in his neck. SOURCE: Yahoo Sports
Insight: Don't be surprised if Padilla misses more than one start.
9/7/2010 9:01:00 AM
Description: Padilla allowed three runs on five hits over four innings on Monday against the Padres. He walked one and struck out five.
Insight: Padilla lost his second straight start as he fell to 6-5 with a 4.07 ERA. (
9/7/2010 5:32:00 AM
Description: Pitching with a strict pitch count, Vicente Padilla allowed three runs over four innings last night against the Padres.
Insight: He isn't worth using in any leagues until the Dodgers are willing to let him throw 80-90 pitches at least. He only threw 59 last night.
8/19/2010 9:04:00 PM
Description: Vicente Padilla has been placed on the DL because of a bulging disk in his neck. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: He hadn't pitched as well in his past two starts and this was the reason. He can be dropped in shallow leagues but he should be back in September.
8/15/2010 3:51:00 PM
Description: Vicente Padilla gave up eight runs in 4 1/3 innings today in Atlanta.
Insight: He had been pitching very well but was ineffective in both starts this week. He is worth using in deep leagues next week at home against the Reds but most mixed league owners can do better.
8/5/2010 8:22:00 AM
Description: Padilla pitched a complete game shutout against the Padres on Wednesday. He allowed only two hits while walking two and striking out nine.
Insight: Padilla won for the first time since July 11th as he is now 5-3 with a 3.09 ERA. (
