Victoria, BC (Sports Network) - Kyle Kallan posted a six-under 64 to take the lead after the first round of the Times Colonist Island Savings Open, the first Canadian Tour event in Canada this year.

Kallan, who is playing in only his second event on tour, had an eagle and four birdies at Uplands Golf Club to grab a one-stroke lead over James Allenby. In his first event, the Mexican PGA Championship, Kallan missed the cut after shooting over par in two straight rounds.

This is the fourth event of the year after two in Colombia and one in Mexico, and the remainder of the events will take place in Canada except for the season-ending Desert Dunes Classic in California.

Allenby had an eagle, six birdies and three bogeys to take second at five- under 65, while Vince Covello is in third at minus-four.

Byron Smith, Dustin Risdon, Dan Buchner, Wes Heffernan and Robbie Greenwell all shared fourth at three-under 67.

The 23-year-old Kallan was flawless throughout the day.

He began on the 10th tee and broke into red figures with a birdie at the 12th. Kallan eagled the par-four 15th and parred four straight to make the third at three-under.

On his second nine, Kallan posted back-to-back birdies from the second to vault up the leaderboard. After four straight pars, a final birdie at the par- four eighth gave him the lead.

Allenby's scorecard was a bit more colorful, with birdies on three of the first four holes before a bogey at the fifth. He posted back-to-back birdies at Nos. 7 and 8 to get to four-under, and an eagle at the par-four 10th put him at six-under.

He faltered, however, with two straight bogeys from the 11th, though a birdie at the 16th got him within one heading to Friday's play.

NOTES: Defending champion Brock Mackenzie shot a two-over par 72...Adam Hadwin, who shared second last year, came in at plus-three...The winners of all three 2011 Canadian Tour events are in the field this week, including Hadwin. The others are Cody Slover, who shot a 73, and Jose de Jesus Rodriguez, who shot a 70.
