Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Vick Ballard ran for 144 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to lead the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 31-3 Southeastern Conference win over arch rival Ole Miss at rain-soaked Davis Wade Stadium in the annual Battle for the Golden Egg.
Chris Relf was 8-of-13 through the air for the Bulldogs (6-6, 2-6 SEC) who joined the bowl-eligible ranks with the win. LaDarius Perkins caught three balls for 27 yards and a score. He also ran for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Barry Brunetti was 12-of-22 through their air for the Rebels (2-10, 0-8), who lost their 14th straight conference game. Donte Moncrief caught four balls for 20 yards. Enrique Davis ran for 32 yards on 12 carries
The Bulldogs opened the scoring when Relf hit Vick Ballard with an 18-yard scoring pass with 9:35 left in the first quarter. Perkins made it a 14-0 game on a 36-yard run at the 1:22 mark of the frame.
Relf found Perkins on a 20-yard throw to make it a 21-0 game with 6:51 left in the first half.
Ballard extended his team's lead to 28-0 when he scampered 25 yards for a score with 13:38 left in the third quarter.
The Rebels got their only points when Bryson Rose kicked a 28-yard field goal with 4:59 left in the third quarter.
Derek DePasquale answered back for the Bulldogs with a 35-yard field goal with 12:03 left in the game.
The rain and the Bulldog defense limited the Rebels to 202 net offensive yards. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on all three trips to the red zone.
